Technology May Have Saved Lives in Rhode Island Nightclub

SHELTON, Conn., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- The recent nightclub fire in Rhode Island, in which nearly 100 people died, has brought about new questions about not only the safety of nightclubs, but also the risks involved in indoor pyrotechnic displays.

"Almost 100 lives were wasted in Rhode Island, many of them very young. Perhaps even more tragic is the fact that all these lives might have been saved if people had been more careful," says John Jaworski. Jaworski's company, X-Streamers, has created the "Flameless Fireworks Show," which consists of computer-controlled bursts of confetti and streamers. "The entire show is choreographed and carried out by technology, not fire," says Jaworski. "The whole display is pneumatic, meaning it's powered by air, so it requires no fire, no flame, and no sparks. Perhaps Great White and concert planners at The Station should have considered other alternatives before opting to use real fireworks."

According to Jaworski, Flameless Fireworks look very similar to the real fireworks you'd see on the Fourth of July, but is 100% free of the fire danger. "Many people come away from one of these shows thinking they really were seeing fireworks," says Jaworski.

"When a display like Flameless Fireworks is used, there's no permit required, and the hassles and red tape involved in putting on a pyrotechnic display can be avoided," says Jaworski, "not to mention the safety issue." As the recent tragedy in Rhode Island has shown us, alternatives to fireworks, especially indoors, should be looked at more closely in the planning stages of big events. There is, after all, a lot at stake. Much can be saved when common sense prevails.
